A LONG time ago I used to do posts about how to redeem your time (or really it was a reminder for me, but I shared…so nice of me right). Our time is very valuable and really shrinking in terms of upcoming responsibilities and what to do first, what to put aside and what to ‘forget’. If we always knew ahead of time what was really important I am sure some things would provoke a different response but we can only do the best we can do with that we have, Right?!
The bureau of statics states we generally talk on the phone .18 hours per day. What does that really mean? It doesn’t sound like much but I can go days without talking on the phone and then bam…hours….hours….crazy music and blaring sounds….waiting on the phone. Have you heard of the ring back tone platform? Have you ever called someone, generally a big business, and your phone (okay, I mean a phone prompt) ask you if you wish to have a call back by that number? Well, instead of pacing with the phone in your ear, listing to music that keeps getting interrupted to only tell you have to wait long, you can actually hang up and wait for them to ‘ring you back’. Cool huh!?
I like this for many reasons. One time my husband HAD to get through to someone in the financial aide department, he must have been on hold for 30 minutes; it was INSANE. Midway he placed the call on speaker so he could move about and still listen for the line to become free. When someone came to the phone, he went to depress the speaker function…and you know what…he accidentally hung up on them. It was like a slow motion movie..I screamed ‘noooooo’ as that button was pressed and his head sunk and he had just hit the button. Of course, we eventually made it through to the right department but I do think we spent well more than .18 hours of our day on the phone…wasted
- so, use the ring back feature or encourage those businesses that we dread calling to use it
